This is an A week.
Advanced Composition: We continue examining Cause and Effect this week with three reading selections. You will also have time during Writing Workshop to work on the Classification paper which is due on Thursday the 4th! If you have NOT turned in your reading journal for the first five weeks and/or the critique for When the Emperor was Divine, these were due last Friday the 28th. You should be bringing a book of your choice to class each day for SSR each day.
Art History: Finally! I have the syllabus done for you. We will finish up Celtic and Insular Art with a documentary on The Book of Kells before moving on to Carolingian and Ottonian Art and finishing with Gothic Art in Northern Europe.
Creative Writing: Don’t forget to keep up with the reading and practice assignments in Wild Mind while working on the Travel Diary assignment due on Tuesday, October 23rd.
Film as Literature: We are still behind, but hopefully we will get caught up in the next week or two. We will finish Master and Commander and then review Chapter 2: “Elements of Narrative.” The quiz for Chapter 2 has been pushed back to Friday, October 12th. Our other film for the week is 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Fundamentals of Composition: Your critique for The Alchemist is due on Friday, October 5th. Once you have finished reading The Alchemist, please return it to the library and then bring any book of your choice for our daily SSR. This week we put the first four chapters of our textbook together with what we will learn from Chapter 5: “Narration” in preparation for writing our first essay. PLEASE make sure that you are keeping up with reading the chapters BEFORE the week we are scheduled to cover them!
Publications and Media: YES!! We have almost finished burning all of the CD-ROMs for the 2010-2011 Yearbook! Now we need to get the 2011-2012 book finished. Our deadline for this is Friday, October 19th for Grandparents’ Day, so decide who is responsible for what and let’s get this done!
Class of 2015: the October breakfast is coming up this week—Friday the 5th, so sign up to bring something and then, do not forget to bring it!
LOCK-IN next week! Download the information and permission slip at the top of this page on the right!
