The Upper School Activities Committee [USAC] is the planning and fundraising team for the Upper School. The USAC raises funds for Lock-Ins, all-Upper School Breakfasts, Prom, and other activities and events for Upper School students. This is a busy time for the USAC as we are responsible for the cafe/bake sale at the Annual Book and Giving Fair, and this year we have chosen to take on two additional commitments.
Our first new enterprise is the creation of a Children's Holiday Workshop at the annual Book and Giving Fair. Children will be able to make gifts for friends and family members at the Book Fair, for a nominal charge, while supervised/aided by US students. Gift possibilities include photo frames, ornaments, jewelry, pot holders, and even coffee mugs! Once the gifts have been made, participants may either wrap their gifts or have them wrapped so that their secrets are safe until Hanukkah or Christmas!
Our second new enterprise this year is that we are partnering with the Norfolk Botanical Gardens [NBG] to sell tickets to the annual Garden of Lights! Purchase your ticket from us for $8.00 and enjoy a wonderful drive through the Garden of Lights from 5:30 to 10:00 PM any night from Thanksgiving Day through January 1st, 2012. Tickets admit one passenger vehicle (not valid for motor coaches, buses, limos, or activity vans). Tickets at the NBG sell for $10.00 Sunday through Thursday nights and $15.00 on Friday and Saturday nights, so you can save money AND help us to provide activities to US students for little to no cost to them when you buy tickets from us! We earn $2.00 per ticket, AND we are entered into a drawing for a free field trip to the NBG which will be awarded to the group with the highest ticket sales! Our goal for this first year is 200 tickets, and we need your help to do it! You may buy tickets from Teacher Barb or Teacher Carrie. We will have order forms in the office by Monday, November 21st.
So, plan now to donate baked goods, and even pots of soup, for our cafe at the Book Fair [November 30th - December 3rd], volunteer to help with the Children's Holiday Workshop [if YOU know how to make crafts that little ones would love, please let us know and then join us!], and buy Garden of Lights tickets!
Thank you and have a WONDERFUL holiday season!
Teacher Barb :)
