American Literature: We will finish watching Huckleberry Finn as our introduction to to the unit on American Literature 1865-1914: The Transformation of a Nation before moving on to Stephen Crane's “The Open Boat.” In addition, we will discuss Writing Assignment 2 [detailed in you syllabus on pages 7 and 8]. This assignment will be due on Friday, May 9th.
Art History II: The Age of Revolutions Glogs were fantastic, and I think we all learned a lot from these presentations! This week we will finish the Age of Revolutions with three reading selections
- British Art: The Vortex;
- Russian Art 1: from Symbolism to Suprematism; and,
- Russian Art 2: Constructivism.
- Matisse/Picasso—Twin Giants of Modern Art [DVD].
Poetry and Nonfiction: Don't forget, your "Found" poem [with the three examples of alliteration and/or assonance] is due on Tuesday, April 15th! We will continue our reading of In My Hands: Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer this week, so we have a quiet week, but you DO need to be prepared to get some of this reading done! Don't forget that your sonnet based on your reading of A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek is due on Thursday, April 24th! The details are on Jupiter Grades and the Poetry and Nonfiction Class page.
Shakespeare’s Tragedies and Histories: We will continue reading out Othello in preparation for our visit to the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton to see this play performed live on Wednesday, the 16th! We will have lunch at the Stanton Baja Bean location, so be sure to bring money for lunch! Please return your permission slips for this by Monday, April 14th.
The Word: The New Testament in Art, History, Literature, and Music: This week we will continue with Unit 13—Revelations:
- Chapter 38: A Great Battle
- Chapter 39: A New Jerusalem
- Unit Feature: Dante's Purgatorio
World Literature: Reminder: Writing Assignment 1 is due on April 15th! Specifics can be found in your syllabus, available both on Jupiter and the World Literature class page. Continuing with our unit Encounters with the Supernatural and Spirit Worlds, we turn to Islamic literature this week as we read The Thousand and One Nights. We will also discuss Multimedia Project 2 which will be due on May 15th.
