Congratulations to Zach on being accepted by Chowan University! It's always nice to get the first acceptance before Thanksgiving!
Advisory: We need to decide what we will be making for the Thanksgiving Feast which will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd. Also, Teacher Lauren is looking for some “found” art supplies—the list is on the board for those who can help with this.
Advanced Composition: We will continue looking at Chapter 12: "Definition: Establishing Boundaries" with reading selections from our textbook. The I-Search Project Topic and Executive Summary [essentially Parts I & II of the I-Search project] are due on Wednesday, November 16th. On Friday I will meet with each of you individually to discuss your topic choice and the research strategy you have mapped out. During Writing Workshop time you should also be working on your Definition Essay which is due on Monday, November 21st!
American Short Story: You have the Unit Two test on Monday, November 14th! This IS an open notes [but NOT open book] test again, and you are required to turn in the notes you use with your name on them. On Wednesday we will begin Unit Three, Literature from the 1970s and 1980s with “The Key,” “The Flowers,” and “Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?” Don't forget to work on your Unit Two Response Paper which is due Wednesday, November 30th.
Fundamentals of Composition: We will continue to work on Chapter 10: Comparison: Showing Relationships with reading selections from our textbook. Your Process Analysis paper is due on Thursday, November 17th, so please bring the draft to class on Tuesday for peer review.
Public Speaking: We will begin the week with Good Night, and Good Luck as I will be in Richmond for a conference on Monday. Later in the week Kevin will present Chapter 11: “Presenting Your Speech.”
Publications and Media: We have two more PR Campaigns to pitch: Kevin and Eduardo will present their clients to the class on Tuesday. Then we will create advertising/ordering materials for the US Activities Committee's sale of Norfolk Botanical Gardens' Gardens of Light tickets. Don't forget that we need to keep taking pictures for the yearbook!
The Word: As part of the “Kingdom and Exile” Unit, we will be watching the film David. You will not need to bring your textbooks this week.
College Counseling: An Admissions Representative from Virginia Wesleyan College will be here on Wednesday, November 16th at 10:30. Interested? Plan to join us in my classroom.
Next week is Thanksgiving, and we will only have one A day and one B day with no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. With so many of us visiting family over the holiday, it might be a good idea to try and get ahead with assignments that are due week 14, November 28th through December 2nd!
