Class of 2015: Next week is the Thanksgiving Feast, and we need to decide what we are doing for this. Additionally, we need to come up with a plan for the December monthly breakfast [Friday, December 6th] which we will be having with the seniors somewhere off campus. Finally, we should plan on something to do as a class for the holidays—skating at MacArthur Mall? Touring the Holiday Lights on the Boardwalk? Going to see Santa Clause and having our picture taken with him? The Winter Break will be here before we know it!
Advanced Composition: This week we will be looking at Chapter 13: “Argument—Convincing Others” and discussing appeals and reasoning strategies that are useful in writing persuasive essays. We will also read two selections from our text:
- “Yes, Don’t Impede Medical Progress” and
- “A Journalist’s View of Black Economics.”
Art History I: We have a LOT of reading to do this week!
- Dürer and Grünewald
- Painting in Germany before the Reformation
- Sculpture in Germany: Late Gothic and Italianate
- Netherlandish and French Painting
- Mannerist Painting in Italy I
- Mannerism 2: The Medici and the French Kings
- Mannerist Sculpture in Italy
- Painting in Venice: Tintoretto and Veronese
- Art in Spain: El Greco
Fundamentals of Composition: This week we will continue our exploration of Chapter 10: “Comparison—Showing Relationships” with three reading selections:
- “Barbie Doesn’t Live Here Anymore,”
- “Private Language, Public Language,” and,
- “Art Form for the Digital Age.”
Science Fiction/Fantasy: We continue with our reading of Pride of Chanur. I was a little late with last week’s blog topic, so you have until Wednesday at midnight to respond with a Biopoem for a character of your choice for your original post and a response to someone else’s poem for your second post. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
The Word: Art, History, Literature, and Music in the Old Testament: Don’t forget—your Art from the Old Testament assignment is due on Tuesday, November 19th! We will finish watching Exodus and then begin Unit 7A: Writings and Wisdom, reading Chapter 14: “Songs and Poetry” in preparation for selecting a Psalm to “podcast” next week.
On Wednesday, LifeTouch will be here in the morning if you need to have your picture retaken, so please dress nicely and be prepared to meet with the photographer when s/he is ready for students.
This is an A week!
