I know everyone is getting excited about the holidays, but we DO have more than two weeks before break, so we need to stay focused on getting assignments completed and work turned in on time!
Advanced Composition: Please remember to bring a book to read for SSR, your ChromeBook, and Strategies for Successful Writing to class every day. When you don’t, you lose participation points! Remember, your weekly journal entry MUST be completed by Friday at 4:00 in the Google Doc you have shared with me! This week we will continue with Chapter 13: “Argument,” reading three selections from our textbook:
- “Crossing Lines”
- “The Misguided Zeal of the Privacy Lobby”
- “Halt and Show Your Papers”
Art History I: On Tuesday we will visit the Chrysler Museum, leaving school after our class begins and returning about 12:15 or so to eat lunch n the classroom before returning to Block 7 classes. You will have an assignment from this field trip, so it will not be ALL fun and games! We are behind, again, but we will do our best to get through the following chapters from the Baroque Era: the 17th Century:
- The Carracci and their Pupils
- The High Baroque in Rome
- French Art I
- Landscape Painting in Italy
- French Art 2: The Sun King
- Art in Flanders
- Art in England
- Art in Spain
- Art in the Dutch Republic
- Rembrandt van Rijn
- Rembrandt: The Self-Portrait at Kenwood
- Dutch Landscape 1
- Dutch Classic 2: “Classic”
- Dutch Genre and Portraiture 1
- Dutch Genre and Portraiture 2: Delft and Deventer
Film as Literature: We will finish watching North by Northwest before turning to Chapter 7: “Sound” and the film I have chosen for this chapter: Baz Luhrman’s Moulin Rouge!
Fundamentals of Composition: We will look at Chapter 19: “Writing About Literature” which will be helpful for your final projects. During Writing Workshop you will have time to work on your comparison essays and/or your final literature project. Please do NOT forget to bring a book to read for SSR, your ChromeBook, and Strategies for Successful Writing to class EVERY day. When you don't, you lose points from your participation grade.... Remember, your weekly journal entry MUST be completed by Friday at 4:00 in the Google Doc you have shared with me!
Mystery Fiction: I hope you have finished The Silver Pigs because our final discussion and your Postcards from Rome and The Silver Pigs Crime Notes are due on Monday, December 5th! Next up we will be reading A Morbid Taste for Bones. I will have your new blog post up by Monday afternoon, and then you will need to make your original post by Thursday at midnight and the follow-up response to a classmate by Saturday at midnight.
ONLINE CLASSES: Please make sure you are following the pacing guide for the class; remember, regardless of whether or not WE have class/school, Virtual Virginia is available, and you may have assignments due!
Again, if you are participating in Secret Santa/Hanukkah Harry, please do not forget to give your recipient a small gift/treat on Tuesday AND Friday!
Teacher Barb :)
