This is the second week of the Upper School Secret Santa/Hanukkah Harry/Kwanzaa Kevin/Bodhi Ben/Ramadan Ralphie/Yule Yorick/Divali Dennis festivities. So far, we are doing pretty well with this, so let’s stay on track this with this! It is upsetting when someone doesn’t receive anything from his/her Secret Santa/Hanukkah Harry. The Tuesday/Friday “gifts” do not need to be anything elaborate—a Coke or a candy bar or a homemade cupcake are great little gifts! I do have extra paper and ribbons for those of you who may want to wrap something but have forgotten to do it at home. Remember, the best part is that each recipient is a SECRET, so please do NOT tell anyone who you have for Secret Santa/Hanukkah Harry!

Advanced Composition: Reminder: the Argument essay is due Thursday, December 15th! This week will work on Chapter 14: “Mixing the Writing Strategies.” We will read “Blur: Cheetahs, Ranchers, Hope” and have some time to work on the I-Search projects. Please bring your textbooks and ChromeBooks to class each day! Additionally, you need to bring a book to read during SSR—you lose points when you don’t! Don’t forget to post your journal and SHARE it with me by 4:00 on Friday.
Art History I: This week we will finish our study of the 17th century, The Baroque era with a few chapters from our textbook:
- Dutch Landscape 1
- Dutch Classic 2: “Classic”
- Dutch Genre Genre and Portraiture 1
- Dutch Genre and Portraiture 2: Delft and Deventer
- Dutch Still-Life Painting
- Late Baroque in Italy
Film as Literature: Reminder: the chapter 7 quiz is on Wednesday, December 14th! This week we will finish Moulin Rouge and then review Chapter 8: “Thinking About Movies, Theory, and Meaning” before turning to the number one film of all time [according to the American Film Institute]: Citizen Kane.
Fundamentals of Composition: Reminder: the Comparison essay is due Friday, December 16th! We will move on to chapter 22: “Documenting Sources.” This particular chapter is one we will only use as a reference, so there are no notes—we will just familiarize ourselves with where to find information in this chapter. We will also have a LOT of time to read and work on the literature projects, so please bring your textbooks, ChromeBooks, and a book to read for SSR each day! Don’t forget to post your journal entry and SHARE it with me by 4:00 on Friday!
Mystery Fiction: We are still reading A Morbid Taste for Bones, but the due date for the Postcards from Medieval Britain and the Crime Notes for this book has been changed to after the break, Friday, January 6th! This should give you PLENTY of time to finish reading! The blog will be up by Monday morning, and you have until Thursday, December 15th to make your first post. Because of the shift in due dates, we will be watching Evil Under the Sun this week!
ONLINE CLASSES: Please make sure you are following the pacing guide for the class; remember, regardless of whether or not WE have class/school, Virtual Virginia is available, and you may have assignments due!
This is a B week—our last full week of the year [that would be 2016, not the school year!].
