Here we are—the last week before the holiday break! Don't forget that if you are participating in the US Secret Santa/Hanukkah Harry Gift Exchange, you need to bring in a small gift on Wednesday and the final gift on Friday when, at our annual US Holiday bash, ALL WILL BE REVEALED! [Remember that you are supposed to be keeping your person a secret, right???] If you were celebrating Hanukkah last week, I hope you ended your eight nights in a big way!
Advanced Composition: We will look briefly at Chapter 14, “Mixing the Writing Strategies” in your textbooks as a way of continuing our discussion about the importance of keeping your audience and purpose firmly in mind EVERY TIME you write something, regardless of the strategy you use! We will read “Blur: Cheetahs, Ranchers, Hope.” Please remember to bring a reading book for SSR and your textbook to class EACH DAY! During Writing Workshop time, you may work on your Argument paper, due Thursday, December 20th, or your I-Search Project, due on January 15th!
Art History: The Glass blowing program and demonstration at the Chrysler Museum was AMAZING, wasn't it? I am so glad that we were able to go to see this! Your response to the question concerning "What WOWed me at the Chrysler Museum?" is due on Thursday, December 20th. This week we have three reading selections:
- Vermeer: The Artist's Studio
- Dutch Still-Life Painting
- Late Baroque in Italy
Creative Writing: Don’t forget to keep up with the reading and practice assignments in Wild Mind for this week:
- “Orchestra” and its accompanying “Try This”
- “Resident Poet” and its accompanying “Try This”
Fundamentals of Composition: This week you will have time in writing workshop to work on the Comparison essay due on Wednesday, December 19th, or your literature project which is due on Wednesday, January 16th. [The handout for this project is downloadable from your class page if you no longer have the one I gave you at the beginning of the term!]
Publications and Media: Yes--we will be burning the last DVD-ROMs of the 2011-2012 Yearbook and packaging these for distribution prior to turning our energies to the 2012-2013 yearbook! So, give some thought to the 2012-2013 theme and the pictures we will need, so that way we will be organized to get to work when classes resume in January!
Thursday is the Holiday Concert, and on Friday we have noon dismissal before our two-week break. PLEASE be sure that you have cleaned ALL food out of your cubbies and Advisory refrigerators and take home anything hanging on the hooks in the hallway!
Have a great week!
