PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE MADE CHANGES TO THE SYLLABI FOR ADVANCED COMPOSITION, FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPOSITION, AND PUBLIC SPEAKING DUE TO A MISTAKE I MADE IN THE CALENDAR--THE FIRST SEMESTER ENDS ON JANUARY 20TH!
Advanced Composition: On Monday we will take a quick look at Chapter 20: “Business Letter, Memos, and Résumés.” You will write a memo to me with your plans for the presentation of your I-Search project. You may use the rest of the week to work on your memo and I-Search Project--PLEASE come to class prepared to work! The memo and the I-Search Project are due on Wednesday, January 18th.
American Short Story: We will continue reading selections from Unit Four: “Literature from the 1990s” this week. I will go over the Unit Four Response Paper Assignment which is due next week; the assignment sheet was uploaded to the website before the break for those of you who wanted to get an early start on this assignment.... Don’t forget, your Unit Three Response Paper has been moved to Wednesday, January 18th, and the Unit Four Response Paper is due Friday, January 20th!
Fundamentals of Composition: This week we will concentrate on the Literature Project which is due on Thursday, January 19th. We will quickly review Chapter 22: “Documenting Sources” so that you know how to use in-text citations and prepare a correct bibliographic entry for your book. Please bring the book you are using for this project and come to class this week prepared to WORK! The Literature Project is due Thursday, January 19th!
Publications and Media: We finally have our Adobe CS5 software installed, and I hope to have Teacher Jeff here this week to work with us to teach us how to use all of the programs so that we can get started on our yearbooks!
Public Speaking: This is a VERY busy week for us! Barbara will present Chapter 15: "Ceremonial Speaking" to us on Wednesday, and then you will give your persuasive speeches on Friday, January 13th. Next week we will have final presentations--demonstrations of how something works or how to do something, so you need to be ready for Wednesday, January 18th! Remember, these are longer speeches that should demonstrate your mastery of the public speaking techniques we have learned this semester! If at all possible, you will present your eulogies on Friday, January 20th.
The Word: This week we will finish up with Unit Seven B: “Writings and Wisdom” and get prepared for the Old Testament Character Presentations next week. These have been great fun in the past, and I know we are all looking forward to this! For those of you who are only taking the Old Testament part of this course, you only have two weeks to go! For those of you who will continue with the New Testament, we will begin by watching a great transition film: Ben Hur!
Science Fiction and Fantasy: Your second response paper is due on Friday, January 13th and you need to make arrangements with me to present your final project to me by Friday, January 20th. I am really looking forward to seeing what you are creating for this!
I know we are just coming off of a two-week vacation, but as a reminder, there is no school on Monday, January 16th, Martin Luther King Day. So, plan accordingly so that you can finish the semester with everything completed!
Teacher Barb :)
