Advanced Composition: This week we will review the material in Chapter 22: “Documenting Sources” while spending the majority of our time in Writing Workshop. It is critical that you spend class time wisely. S o please be prepared to work on either your I-Search or the Cause and Effect paper which is due on Wednesday, October 23rd. Please remember that you should be bringing a book to read and your journals for responses during SSR each day!
Art History: We are caught up again! We have several chapters to read focusing on the Early Renaissance this week:
- Italian Renaissance Sculpture 1
- Masaccio: The Holy Trinity
- Italian Renaissance Painting 1
- Fra Angelico: The San Marco Annunciation
- Italian Painting 2: Tuscany in Mid-Century
- Piero della Francesca: The Flagellation
- Italian Sculpture 2: New Modes and Types
- Italian Painting 3: Florence and Rome
- Botticelli: Primavera

Fundamentals of English Composition: On Monday we need to finish reading the descriptive essay we were reading last week, “Assembly Line Adventure,” and then we will work on chapter 7: “Process Analysis: Explaining How” in your textbook. We will read two process analysis selections, one which explains how to do something and one which shows how something “works”:
- “Fast Track to Perfection”
- “Waves of Destruction”
Science Fiction/Fantasy: You should have finished Ender's Game; remember, the Postcards from the Battle School will be due on Wednesday, October 23rd. Now that we have been introduced to an alien race in Ender's Game, we will look at an alien point of view in reading The Martian Chronicles. In addition, we will be watching Dune, a story of a planet with extraordinary ecological challenges. Look for connections to the issues of the contemporary Middle East as we watch this complex film. Don’t forget to make two posts to our class blog each week!
The Word--The Old Testament in Art, History, Literature, Music, and Culture: First, we will finish watching The Ten Commandments. Then we will move on to Samson and Delilah. So, we have a relatively easy week ahead!
This is a B week and the last week of the first quarter. Make sure that you have done all of your assignments for EVERY class as Progress Reports will be out by November 5th! Just a reminder, there will be no school on Thursday, October 31st or Friday, November 1st.
