This is a short but busy week! We have Monday off for the Labor Day holiday, and we are off again on Thursday for Rosh Hashanah. Also, Back to School Night/US Open House is Tuesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
Advisory/Class of 2015: Friday is our first monthly breakfast! I will take care of this for us this month... Come hungry on Friday!
Advanced Composition: This week we will continue reading When the Emperor was Divine during Sustained Silent Reading [SSR], but you are certainly welcome to read this on your own as well! Don't forget to make journal entries as you read. We will finish watching Wonder Boys and review chapters 1-4 in Strategies for Successful Writing.
Art History: This week we continue with Ancient Worlds--African, Pre-Columbian and Tribal arts. Don't forget that your Picture It assignment is due by Friday, September 13th. You should send me the picture you have chosen to take by Thursday night, September 12th.
Fundamentals of Composition: We will continue to read The Alchemist [don't forget to make journal entries before beginning chapter 1: "Writing, a First Look" in our Strategies for Successful Writing text.
Science Fiction & Fantasy: We will finish watching The Time Machine and try to hammer out for ourselves the differences between science fiction [The Time Machine] and fantasy [Tuck Everlasting]. Paddy has suggested that fantasy is organic while science fiction is inorganic... a thought provoking an intriguing idea! So how will our first reading selection fit that framework? We will begin Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein this week, and in lieu of keeping journals, we will be blogging about our reading!
The Word--The Old Testament: We will finish Walking the Bible with Bruce Feiler and then get started on chapter 1 in our textbbook, "Why Study the Bible?" With luck, the part will come in and the copier will be up and running by this weekend so that next week I can give you the assignment sheet for our first project, The Ten Commandments Glogster!
Remember, this is an A week because we did not have school on Monday, but B day classes only meet once this week as we are also off on Thursday.
Have a great week!
Teacher Barb :)
