The different Advisories are slowly getting lunch offerings organized. Please check with classes to see what will be offered this year and when those lunches will start being available.
Advanced Composition: Please remember to bring When the Emperor was Divine AND Strategies for Successful Writing AND your CHARGED ChromeBook to class each day! Don't forget, this year we are doing the reading journals electronically in Google Docs, so this week's entry must be made [and shared with me] by Friday. We will be reviewing chapters 1-4 in the Strategies book and then doing an assessment for Farewell to Manzanar. Hopefully you have finished this book which was assigned for summer reading! If you finish When the Emperor was Divine, you will need to bring another book to read during SSR.
American Short Story: We will begin Unit One, “Literature of the 1920s and 1940s.” We will look at three selections [or more!] from this era:
- “In Another Country”
- “Babylon Revisited”
Art History I: After we finish watching How Art Made the World: “The Day Pictures were Born,” we will continue with the Ancient Worlds unit, reading the following chapters this week:
- African Art I: Prehistoric and Historic
- African Art 2: Tribal
- Pre-Columbian Art
- A Tlingit House Post
- Oceanic Art
- Egyptian Art I: The Old Kingdom
- Egyptian Art II: The New Kingdom
Fundamentals of Composition: Please do NOT forget to bring The Alchemist [or another book to read for SSR if you have already finished it], Strategies for Successful Writing, and your CHARGED ChromeBook to class EVERY day. Once we finish Finding Forrester, we will go over the notes for Chapter 1: “Writing, a First Look,” so please be sure that you have read through the chapter before class on Wednesday. This week you will need to make an entry into your electronic journal [Google Docs] and share it with me before 4:00 on Friday.
The Word I—the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible: We will finish watching Walking the Bible: A Journey by Land through the Five Books of Moses and then move on to Unit One in the textbook:
- Chapter 1: Why Study the Bible?
- Chapter 2: Introduction to the Hebrew Bible
- Unit Feature: Biblical Allusions
Finally, don't forget that the Back to School Night is Thursday night from 5:30 to 7:30 in the Wilson Center.
Because we do not have school on Monday [Labor Day], this will be another A week.
