Two Head of School candidates will be visiting with us this week. On Monday, Dr. William Macatee visits, and on Wednesday David Buffum will be here.
Advanced Composition: Please remember to bring When the Emperor was Divine AND Strategies for Successful Writing AND your CHARGED ChromeBook to class each day! Don't forget, this year we are doing the reading journals electronically in Google Docs, so this week's entry must be made [and shared with me] by Friday. We will be reviewing chapters 3 and 4 and then beginning Chapter 9: Classification—Grouping Into Categories in the Strategies book. We will also talk about the first paper, a Classification Paper due on October 6th. If you finish When the Emperor was Divine, you will need to bring another book to read during SSR.
American Short Story: We will begin Unit One, “Literature of the 1920s and 1940s.” We will discuss “Babylon Revisted” [which you were to finish reading as homework] before turning to three new selections from this era:
- “The Far and the Near”
- “The Chrysanthemums”
Art History I: This week we continue with the Ancient Worlds unit, starting off with an interesting documentary, Unlocking the Great Pyramid. Then we will continue our reading with the following chapters:
- Western Asian Art
- The Lion Hunt Reliefs from Ninevah
- Cycladic, Minoan, and Mycenaean Art
Fundamentals of Composition: Please do NOT forget to bring The Alchemist [or another book to read for SSR if you have already finished it], Strategies for Successful Writing, and your CHARGED ChromeBook to class EVERY day. Once we finish Chapter 1, we will go over the notes for Chapter 2: “Strategies for Successful Reading,” so please be sure that you have read through the chapter before class on Monday. This week you will need to make an entry into your electronic journal [Google Docs] and share it with me before 4:00 on Friday.
The Word I—the Old Testament/Hebrew Bible: We will finish Unit One, Introduction, in the textbook:
- Chapter 2: “Introduction to the Hebrew Bible”
- Unit Feature: “Biblical Allusions”
- Chapter 3: “In the Beginning”
- Chapter 4: “From the Garden to the Tower”
This is our first 5 day week, and it is a B week.
