The Class of 2018 is selling Firehouse subs for lunch on Thursdays. Orders MUST be placed by Wednesday afternoon. Please see a member of the Class of 2018 for more information.
The Class of 2019 has cheese and pepperoni pizza available from Papa John's on Fridays for $1.50 a slice. This may be pre-ordered on Friday mornings during Advisory.

Advanced Composition: Ah, the week you have all been waiting for, right? You will get your I-Search binders Tuesday with project guidelines and specific requirements for this project. [The information will also be uploaded to the class page on this website and to Jupiter]. We will continue our discussion about I-Search type projects other writers have explored, including the documentaries Rabbit in the Moon and Barbara Kawakami: A Textured Life. Please remember to bring a book to read for SSR to class each day. Also, you should be bringing your writer's daybook/journal to class and making at least one entry per week during SSR.
American Short Story: The Unit One test is scheduled for Monday, October 12th. Remember, you may use your completed study sheets/vocabulary cards during the test. If you need more of the study sheets as we begin Unit 2, you may want to download them, print a few out, and fill them out as we read! All of the response paper assignment sheets have been uploaded for you as well. We will spend a few minutes discussing Response Paper 1 [due Wednesday, October 28th] if needed. This assignment has been uploaded to Jupiter and to the class page on this website. We will also begin Unit 2: Literature from the 1950s and 19602 with two reading selections:
- “The Veldt”
- “Barn Burning”
Art History I: This week we continue our study of Medieval and Early Renaissance Art, finishing the documentary Art of the Western World: Art History from Ancient Greece to Andy Warhol, Episode 2: “A White Garment of Churches: Romanesque and Gothic Art.” Our reading selections for this week include:
- “The Genesis of Italian Painting”
- “Italian Gothic Sculpture”
- “Giotto di Bondone”
- “Italian Gothic Painting”
- “Ambrogio Lorenzetti: The Good Commune”
- “International Gothic”
Fundamentals of Composition: Please do NOT forget to bring a book to read for SSR and Strategies for Successful Writing to class EVERY day. When you don't, you lose points from your participation grade.... We will move on to Chapter 6: “Description: Presenting Impressions” this week, so please skim this chapter before class! During Writing Workshop we will have time to work on the narrative essay which is due on Wednesday, October 21st.
Science Fiction/Fantasy: We are reading Frank Herbert's Dune, and I urge you to keep a steady pace as this is a long and somewhat complex book. You should be reading Book II this week... I will have your new blog post up by Monday afternoon, and then you will need to make your original post by Thursday at midnight and the follow-up response to a classmate by Saturday at midnight.
The Word--The Old Testament: We will start with the Unit 4 Feature, “Exodus and Emancipation” before watching The Ten Commandments: the 50th Anniversary Collection. Reminder: your Ten Commandments Glogster assignment is due on Tuesday, October 20th.
Advanced Placement Comparative Government: Please make sure you are following the pacing guide for the class; remember, regardless of whether or not WE have class/school, Virtual Virginia is available, and you may have assignments due!
Advanced Placement Psychology: You should have completed Module 1 so that you can open everything in Module 2: Neuroscience.
Creative Writing [online]: You should be working on Module 2: Watering the Garden—The Craft.
Latin II [online]: Have you finished everything for this week Notebook check #1 is due by Tuesday the 13th. You are running out of time on this module!
This is an A week, and there will be an Earthquake Drill on Thursday.
