American Literature: We will be watching The Last of the Mohicans and then reviewing Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle on Wednesday--remember, I asked you to read this over Spring Break, so there WILL be an assessment on your reading! Reminder: we dropped Writing Assignment 1 as you did the BeachNotes in its place. I have already added the points from Writing Assignment 1 to the Minor Assignments category to reflect this change. We will soon be back on track, so please do NOT get into a panic!
Contemporary Fiction: You should have finished reading Snow Falling on Cedars and made a post to the blog during the break... Check the blog for the deadlines! Additionally, remember that spelling/mechanics/grammar count! This is, after all, and English class! We will watch the film adaptation for Snow Falling on Cedars this week and then begin The Secret Life of Bees. If you have a story choice for the midterm Short Story Presentation project, please let me know! I have moved the due date for this project to Monday, March 30th, but this is really only two weeks away!
Psychology [online]: YOU ARE BEHIND!!!! Shakespeare's Comedies and Poetry: We will be watching Kenneth Branagh's production of Love's Labor's Lost on Tuesday and Thursday. Your newspaper page for Love's Labor's Lost [as detailed in the handout] is due on Thursday, March 19th. Remember, we dropped the midterm project in order to stay on track, and I have already moved those points to the Minor Assignments category.
World Literature: We will move into a new unit this week, The Encounter with Supernatural and Spirit Worlds, and that means we will looking at elements of Greek drama and then “acting out” an example of this with Euripides' Medea. After that, we will be looking at “The Golden Age of Japanese Culture” and then “acting out” a selection from Japanese Nōh theatre, the story of a demon who causes problems at a temple as told in, Dōjōji. We will also be talking about Writing Assignment 1 this week.
This is a B week.
Reminder: we WILL have classes on Thursday April 2nd to make up one of the snow days, so plan accordingly!
