Advanced Composition: On Monday we will take a look at Chapter 21: “The Research Paper” in our textbook as a resource for the I-Search project. On Wednesday we do not have class due to the testing schedule, and on Friday we are scheduled for a Writing Workshop, allowing us time to work on the Cause and Effect paper which is due on Wednesday, October 23rd. Please remember that you should be bringing a book to read and your journals for responses during SSR each day!
Art History: Your Artist Trading Cards were AMAZING! This week we move from the Gothic to the Early Renaissance, beginning with a documentary from Art of the Western World: Art History from Ancient Greece to Andy Warhol, Episode Three: “The Early Renaissance.” We will also read several chapters in the textbook:
- Netherlandish Art 1: Sluter and the van Eycks
- Jan van Eyck: the Arnolfini Marriage
- Netherlandish Art 2: Rogier van der Weyden
- Netherlandish Art 3 and its Diffusion
- Bosch: The Garden of Earthly Delights
Fundamentals of English Composition: On Tuesday, we should have some time during Writing Workshop to work on the Narrative essay which is due on Thursday the 17th. Also this week we will read two descriptive selections in preparation for the next essay, the Descriptive, due October 29th:
- “When the Full Moon Shines its Magic over Monument Valley”
- “Assembly Line Adventure”
Science Fiction/Fantasy: We continue with our reading of Ender’s Game, and we should finish up this week as the Postcards from the Battle School will be due on Wednesday, October 23rd. Don’t forget to make two posts to our class blog each week!
The Word--The Old Testament in Art, History, Literature, Music, and Culture: We are a few days behind schedule, but this week we will be watching The Ten Commandments!
This is an A week and the next to last week of the first quarter. With Progress Reports coming out soon, please make sure that you are turning in all of your assignments on time!
