After a busy week last week, this one should be a little quieter!
Advisory: To everyone who participated in our first Pajama Party/Lock-in this past Friday night, thank you for coming--I think everyone had agreat time! Coming up, The Halloween Carnival bake sale benefits the Upper School Activities Committee [this is how we fund Prom and other Upper School events], so plan to make something yummy for Friday the 28th! Additionally, we need volunteers for booths and activities--please see Teacher Carrie for more information. Don't forget that we have a Middle School/Upper School dance after the carnival--come in your costume!
Advanced Composition: We will continue our introduction to the I-Search Project by reading Chapter 21 "The Research Paper" in our Reinking textbook. During our Writing Workshop time, be prepared to work on the Cause and Effect papers which are due on Wednesday, October 26th. Don't forget that you should have a book to read during SSR time each day!
American Short Story: We begin Unit Two this week--Literature from the 1950s and 1960s--with "The Veldt." Remember to select a question for and get started on your Unit One response paper which is due on Wednesday, October 26th.
Fundamentals of Composition: Please do not forget to bring a book for SSR time each day along with a draft of your Narrative Paper--the final draft is due on Thursday, October 20th! We will continue reading some examples of descriptive writing in your Reinking text, so please bring it to class each day!
Publications and Media: Keep working on your Public Relations asssignment--you MUST have a "client" selected by the end of this week for your project!
Public Speaking: We will work on Chapter 7, "Structuring Your Speech."
The Word: We will finish up Unit Four, "Exodus and the Land of Promise" and then view The Prince of Egypt and then The Ten Commandments. Reminder--you will present your Ten Commandments Glogster on Friday, October 28th.
College Counseling: For those of you who are interested, Dr. O'Connor of East Carolina University Admissions will be visiting VBFS at 12:45 on Wednesday. Come and learn more about attending ECU!
The end of the first quarter and The Halloween Carnival are both coming quickly--Friday, October 28th! Advance ticket sales will be available beginning this week. Have a great week!
