Additionally, this will be another A week, so please be prepared to meet with A day classes on Friday!
Advanced Composition: This week we will look at Chapter 22: “Documenting Sources” as a reference to use during the I-Search process. During Writing Workshop time you will have an opportunity to work on your cause and effect essays which are due on Thursday, the 25th –please note that since this is NOT a B week, the paper is due on THURSDAY, not Friday as originally noted in your syllabus! Please remember to bring a book to read for SSR, and keep up with your journals—as this is the last week of the quarter, I will be collecting journals this week.... You have been warned!
Art History: This week each of you will be teaching a segment/chapter of our textbook about the Early Renaissance to the class by creating a one sheet overview/study guide of your segment [use any format you like, but you will need copies for everyone] of important notes to share with us. If your segment/chapter does not focus on a single work of art, your study guide should include a discussion of at least ONE of the works included in that chapter and a list of the major elements characterizing art from your chapter. Your work MUST be legible, and you will need 14 copies! The segments/chapters include:
- Bosch: The Garden of Earthly Delight;
- Italian Renaissance Sculpture 1;
- Masaccio: The Holy Trinity;
- Italian Renaissance Painting 1;
- Fra Angelico: The San Marco Annunciation;
- Italian Painting 2: Tuscany in Mid-Century;
- Piero della Francesca: The Flagellation;
- Italian Sculpture : New Modes and Types;
- Italian Painting 3: Florence and Rome;
- Botticelli: Primavera;
- Renaissance Painting in North and Central Italy; and,

- “Animal”; and
- “Whitman Country” and its related “Try This.”
Film as Literature: This week we are watching Dr. Zhivago, and it will take us all week to finish! Meanwhile, please read Chapter 4: “Cinematography” in your textbook as we will review this next week. Reminder, don't forget to go to the movies, if you have not done so already; your Film Review is due on Thursday, October 25th!
Fundamentals of Composition: This week we will work on Chapter 7: “Process Analysis,” so please make sure that you have read this before class on Monday! Please remember to bring a book to read for SSR, and keep up with your journals—as this is the last week of the quarter, I will be collecting journals this week.... You have been warned!
Publications and Media: Although we have extended our deadline for the 2011-2012 Yearbook, you need to stay on track--we need to have this completed by November 15th! Additionally, we need to start planning out the 2012-2013 Yearbook and getting pictures taken for that “book.” We should have pictures from Grandparents' Day to work on, and we need a plan for getting pictured taken at the Fall Festival/Halloween Carnival and the MS/US Monster Mash Dance that night.
An Admissions Representative from Bridgewater College will be here to speak with interested students on Tuesday, October 23rd at 10:30 in my classroom.
The first quarter ends this week [October 26th]; where has the time gone? Tickets will be on sale for the booths/activities for the Fall Festival/Halloween Carnival and the Monster Mash Dance all taking place on Friday, October 26th. Be sure to buy your tickets ahead of time—the night promises to be quite spirited!
