This semester long workshop combines opportunities for free writing with assigned writing practice. Students will work with writing prompts, story starters, poetry forms, and other creative ways of finding their own writing voices. Workshop participants will write, discuss, and revise their own pieces of writing (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and other genres are all acceptable), and will participate in reading their own writing and critiquing the work of others. Students will be required to keep a writer’s daybook/journal. Evaluation will be based upon daily participation, productive performance during observational sessions, writing assignments, and individual portfolio reviews. The portfolios will include both assigned and personal choice pieces of writing.
